Beware of Lancaster College in Oporto Portugal, their Head Office is in the area Vila Nova de Gaia in Oporto and especially their directors and academies owners.
Emailing your CV, attending an interview in Oporto with the boss wont get you anywhere. The boss is a complete bullshitter, he will promise you a teaching job in one of his centre, will insist that you first start where urgent Teachers are needed,( he sent me to Bragança, a little town north Portugal) where no Teacher are needed.
There are already three Portuguese teachers teaching an average 100 to 150 children and teens. On my third week the boss called me and told me that he’d no longer needed my services, due to children complaining, methodology....
Belwidered by his phone call and not aware of any of it, I asked him why he´d waited 3 weeks before coming forward with the complains, he couldn’t really answer the question and said that the secretary and the teachers who had known the students for the past 5 years, reported what they ´d heard from the students.....I couldn’t believe any of it!!! and told him so..He then offered a part time (10 hours/week)teaching job in Oporto, teaching University students in Oporto at 10 Euros an hour, starting 23rd October, all this meaning relocating to the city (paying for transport, hostal, flat.) and checking other schools, academies for other incomes.
Unfortunately Most schools/academies I contacted already had their courses organised and going...
Staying put in Braganza, making phone calls and email him about the job in Oporto, he wouldn’t answer calls nor reply to my emails, once replying vaguely about the starting date of a course maybe on the 30th October; 3 weeks after my leaving the academy in Bragança, he emailed me that he only has a 4 hours /week teaching position if I´d be interested???
Talk about a waste of time and money- really disrespectful!!
I´ve been dealing with all legal paperwork such as Social Security, Tax Office, I found out that the school or head office in Oporto hadn’t even bothered to inform SS about my teaching in their school, nor did the school inform me about the Tax system in Portugal, (only on my last teaching day did the boss tell me and inform me about the Tax Office, registration..)
The academy Lancaster in Braganza works well with the permanent long term Portuguese Teachers.
Why bother sending someone for 3 weeks?
Why bother telling lies about propectives courses and jobs in Oporto or other towns?
Dealing with such people, who think they´re the best, bullshitting all day long is my experience with Lancaster College Portugal.
