I’ve heard that as CELTA is geared towards teaching English to adults, it’s not as good if you’re looking to go into a school teaching children. Is this true?
Hello Kerrie. Good question. Firstly, CELTA is the most widely recognized and accepted qualification for teaching English anywhere in the world. The only drawback for many is (1) the cost, and (2) the time commitment. Regardless, I think it is extremely beneficial while also helping to improve your potential employment opportunities. CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is primarily focused on teaching to adults but there is valuable pedagogy which can be applied in any classroom environment. If you have a keen interest in focusing on young learners, consider getting the Young Learner (YL) Extension to the CELTA course. Thanks and best of luck!
